Oxford HR is working with The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to recruit a Technical Advisor (Operational Management).
RSPB works internationally to preserve the richness of nature for the well-being today of every one of us and as an inheritance for future generations. It manages over 200 nature reserves and has more than 20 years experience of working with partners in developing countries. Harapan Rainforest is one of the most important conservation projects in the world. Located on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, it protects around 25% of the remaining dry lowland forests of Sumatra, whose area was reduced from 16 million hectares in 1900 to less than half a million today.
About the role
The position of Technical Advisor (Operational Management) is a newly created and unique opportunity to shape and develop management effectiveness of the Harapan Rainforest. Reporting to the Tropical Forest Conservation Manager and working in collaboration with the Chief Estate Manager, the position will provide intensive and effective operational and managerial support to the senior management team at Harapan Rainforest, in particular the department directors and finance team.
In this key leadership position, you will develop and implement management systems and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the effectiveness of Harapan Rainforest management. In line with the Management Plan and both government and donor requirements, these will include work planning, monitoring and evaluation and quality assurance. You will have a crucial role designing and guiding the implementation of a staffing and management structure that delivers effective management of all aspects of Harapan Rainforest, including rigorous communication
structures. Another important function of your role will be partnering the senior management team in ensuring sound financial management.
We are seeking a strong operational leader with a depth of professional experience developing and implementing operational and management support structures for large teams and budgets, ideally in a donor-funded environment. Your expertise in diagnosing organisational structures and operations will be underpinned by a proven capacity to manage human and financial resources and facilitate project planning, implementation and evaluation.
To be successful in this position you will have an understanding of conservation management, which may be informed by experience in a related field such as forestry, sustainable development, natural resource management, rural development or community development, combined with a working knowledge of Government of Indonesia systems and procedures. You will have strong influencing skills and an ability to develop effective relationships. A flexible and resilient individual, you will be known for your ability to prioritise, respond to emerging needs and apply sound judgement.
Fluent written and spoken English and a working knowledge of written and spoken Indonesian are essential for this position.
